From the Curator

When you look at classic cars, put away words like 'transportation' and 'technology'. Clear the palette of your mind and think in words like, 'sculpture', 'form', and 'power'. Although the 1965 Pontiac GTO is my all time favorite classic car, there are others I like very, very much.

What follows are some non-GTO cars I really like and the favorites of some of the other guys in the family.

See what strikes your sense of art and style, and drop me a line if you want to see something else out here. Just give me the year, make, and model and I'll find the pictures.

1967 Austin Healey MK III 3000

Kenny Ebmeier prefers a British roadster.  His all time favorite is the 1967 Austin Healey MK III 3000.  Take a look at this bottle rocket...

1965 Shelby-American Cobra

Interestingly, when I talked to John Ebmeier and Joe Schaffner separately about their favorite oldies, they came up with the same answer; the 1965 Shelby-American Cobra.  Here's a little of what's been written about it:  The Legendary Shelby Cobra was born when Carroll Shelby mated the new small block Ford V8 with the small English sports car back in 1962. The resulting performance astounded automotive enthusiasts and media alike.  The 289 Cobra went on to win races and championships all over the world, culminating in the coveted FIA World GT championship in 1965.

1967 Dodge Coronet R/T

I really like the lines on the '67 Coronet. Convertibles look even better, but they're hard to find. It looks spectacular in black or red. If you want to know whether this car is serious, look at the speedometer.

1972 Cutlass Supreme Convertible

The 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible certainly makes the all-time greatest list.  What a sleek rocket with a 350 CI engine with a 4 bbl carburetor.  These cars are a great value too.  You can find them for well under $20,000 fully restored.  They are not as desirable as the older 4-4-2 models, but they really look sharp.  I predict increasing value for these cars.

1975 Triumpgh TR6

Since Kenny purchased a '75 TR6 to restore, I thought I would post some photos of a fully restored specimen. This one has 27,000 original miles. This car was selling for $20,000 at a place called Motoring Investments.

1966 Chevy Impala SS

John Richard and his family are friends via our children.  John knows a lot more about cars that I do.  This was his Easter present to himself, another classic design, the 1966 Convertible Chevrolet Imapala SS 327/350.  This beautiful specimen came with the original wheels and SS caps.
